The Power of Vulnerability

“Our job is to say [to our kids], ‘You know what, you’re imperfect and you’re wired for struggle, but you are worthy of love and belonging.'”

An amazingly well done TED talk by Brené Brown:

Sore Loser

It was a tough call
For Miss Marian Maul
I told her if she didn’t call it a stall
I’d give her my very last chocolate malt ball
I would rake all
Her leaves in the fall
I’d throw her a ball
In a Great Hall
In a tower so tall
You’re afraid you might fall
I’d buy her a shawl
And build her a huge wall
And on top of it all
I’d make her queen of Gaul
It was a tough call
For Miss Marian Maul
But that hateful malevolent Miss Marian Maul
She looked right at me and called it a stall

So I ate
That chocolate malt ball right in her face

For the Love of Cats

Adorable. Definitely need to write about a character like this. From here.

Remember This, my friend

a poem

The world is round
The sky is blue
The grass is green
And I love you

The snow is cold
The sun is hot
Ice can melt
But we will not

The sea is huge
The shells are small
The cliffs are high
I’ll catch your fall

The dew is wet
The noon day’s dry
The night is dark
For you I’d die

We blink our eyes
We breathe the air
Just think of me
And I’ll be there

Quote about a glass of water

“A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: “How heavy is this glass of water?”

Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.” She continued, “The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything.”

It’s important to remember to let go of your stresses. As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night. Remember to put the glass down.”

Creative Storm

a poem

like a river
words flowing flowing flowing
like a river

drip drip drip
ideas keep coming
in that bucket
in my head
drip drip drip

flash flash flash
goes the lightening
telling me
if I’m not careful
I’m going to start getting

rumble rumble boom
goes the thunder
that turns over the bucket
with ideas
and suddenly
the words
are flowing flowing flowing
like a river
through my head
and out my eyes and lips and fingertips

click click click
goes the keys
on the keyboard
as I type type type
wondering what words
will flow though my fingers next
what storm
is going through my head

drip flash boom
flow flow flow
